Genius Spring cleaning hacks for your home to get excited about. No need to put off that cleaning anymore.

Lemons, Lemons, Lemons!

The goddess of DIY cleaning! Lemons can be used for many spring cleaning hacks. The acid in lemons gets rid of limescale, dirt and rust. Use to clean all manner of things around the home. Squirt lemon juice on fiddly items like taps to make them shine again. Stains can also be lifted off items like chopping boards with a little juice left on them to work some magic. Steam clean your microwave with some slices of lemon in a bowl of water. Cook in the microwave for 5 minutes.

Cinnamon Air Freshener

For instant home fresh scent – sprinkle some cinnamon on your carpets and hoover it up for a quick freshen up and a warming, homely feel. It makes your home smell sweet.

Squirt your Mirrors with Shaving Foam

Sounds daft but it works! Squirt shaving foam on your bathroom mirror and wipe off with a cloth for a streak free shine. The best bit … The shaving foam will also reduce steam build up on the mirror too as the shaving foam creates a protective film preventing fogging.

Disinfect your Sponges in your Microwave

Refresh your sponges quickly with this easy idea. Add a sprinkle of lemon juice on the sponge and pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes. This will nuke germs and leave your sponge smelling wonderfully fresh again. Just make sure you don’t put sponges containing metal in your microwave.

Vinegar - The Great All Rounder

Vinegar has fantastic cleaning properties for use all around your home. Use with newspaper to clean your windows for a great streak free shine. Use it as a cleaner and mix with equal parts water to get rid of limescale, shining up bathroom tiles and lots of other everyday items.  If you have a shower-head that is not detachable, try this neat trick. Fill a sandwich bag with white vinegar and submerge the shower-head in it, tying it securely with a hairband or elastic. Leave overnight and empty the bag before you use the shower!

Bicarbonate of Sofa - Not Just for Cakes

This versatile baking product is also superb for cleaning too! Smelly fridge or bin? Sprinkle this in your bin to get of the odour or popping a small bowl in your fridge will also eliminate odours. Mattresses also deserve a sprinkling of bicarbonate of soda. Leave it on for an hour and then vacuum off to reveal your freshly cleaned mattress. Add it to a spray bottle mixed with water for an all-round surface cleaner.

Cornflour on Carpets

Remove oily or greasy carpet stains with a sprinkle of cornflour covered over it for 20 minutes, then run over with a vacuum.

Oil on Messy paint

If you have paint stuck to your fingers, rub a little vegetable oil and salt together onto the paint to gently scrub it off.

Clinging To Your Fridge

Use good old cling film; lining each shelf with a layer to catch loose crumbs and spills. Replace each week. Cooking foil is great for lining your oven and your baking trays before you cook to keep them cleaner and prolong their use.

Pet Hair Be Gone!

Remove pet hairs with rubber gloves. Rub over cushions or carpets with the rubber gloves on and it will stick to the gloves. Then soak the gloves in sink and the hair will float so you can pick it up easier and dispose in the bin.

Laundry Detergent to Clean your Drive

Add some laundry detergent (not the bleach one) to a bucket of water or make a solution for your pressure washer to clean outdoor surfaces such as wood or concrete paving.

Declutter your Space

Get rid of stuff that is sitting in corners or backs of cupboards that hasn’t been touched. Then consider neat storage that looks nice so you will have a reason to keep the clutter you still have tidy!
